Ladybirds Preschool - All about us

Ladybirds has been delivering high quality preschool education in the Woolston, Peartree and Itchen area for over 15 years.

Ladybirds started in the St Annes Road Scout hut, later moving premises and expanding to 2 preschools. Ladybirds currently has 2 preschools, one is based  in The Scout hut in Porchester Road SO19 2JB and the other is currently in a rented room in Ludlow Infant Academy. Ladybirds Ludlow will be moving from Ludlow Infant Academy to a new location from September 2019. Our new Ladybirds Parkside setting will be based at The Festival Hall, Merryoak Road, SO19 7QR.

Both settings welcome children from 2 years old, and accept all types of funding which includes; 2 year old funding, children with pupil premium, 30 hour funding, universal funding and children with Disability Access Funding.

Ladybirds Preschool works to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment where children learn through play, both in and out of doors.

The curriculum, planning and timetable are planned, using the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ and some aspects of ‘High Scope’ educational approach to learning.

The Session

As a team we are committed to an active learning environment so that children are able to follow their interests.  We provide this through:

  • Careful planning of  the environment, materials and experiences with the children’s interests and stages of development in mind
  • Organising space both in and out of doors into interest areas
  • Plentiful materials, clearly labelled – accessible – for the children to use and return
  • Adults interacting and supporting children sensitively throughout the session focusing on their  strengths as children work on age appropriate experiences.  As children’s confidence grows they are able to form authentic relationships with both adults and children.
  • Where conflict arises we use a problem solving approach
  • A consistent daily routine ensures that children have time to follow through their plans and ideas in a secure, caring and supportive environment.

Key Persons

A dedicated key person is allocated as soon as a child is enrolled in preschool. The key person develops bonds with parents and children and works in partnership to provide activities, supporting each childs age and stage of development and onward learning.

Activities and resources are provided that are tailored to the interests and needs of each child.

Settling

Our settling arrangements include home visits, visits into preschool, stay and play sessions and an introduction to Tapestry (online learning system) so we all get to know each other to support children to feel comfortable and settle happily as soon as they start.

Parent partnership

We invite parents and carers to termly consultations with the key person to discuss observations that they would have seen on Tapestry. Assessment of current learning, next development steps and how best for them to support their child at home. We also arrange regular events, such as

- books for breakfast / tales for tea

- visits from librarian

- creature and animal experiences

- annual preschool outing

- parties and trips to soft play centres

AND MUCH, MUCH MORE !!!!!!!!

Our Porchester Road setting is located opposite St. Patricks RC Primary School in Woolston.  An experienced manager and team welcome children for morning, afternoon or preschool days (8.45 - 3.30) Monday to Friday during school term times.  Daily activities are carefully planned to engage children in learning through their play both indoors and in our spacious garden.

Our Parkside setting will be located on the site of the Veracity Recreation Ground, serving the Bitterne, Sholing and Itchen local community.  The experienced Manager and full team are excited to be moving to this new location where capacity will be larger than our previous location.  A spacious preschool room and enormous garden will provide both outdoor and indoor learning environments to develop learning through free-flow play alongside tailored, planned activities.
